How we found The Moon:

We found our "new" sailboat in the spring of 2011. We drove up to Rockaway Beach to meet Pete Duggan who liked us, liked the idea of his boat going to a happy couple who planned to sail her. That day, after writing all our notes out on paper napkins over lunch at Kennedy's in Breezy Point, Peter and I drove back to the Duggan's house and on a handshake sealed the deal. Driving home to Philadelphia, we saw a full moon over the Verranzano Bridge and thought it a sign.

The next week we drove up with a cashiers check and to sign the title.  For several weeks, we worked on Moon (as we call her) and met lots of characters in and around the yard, each one stopped with a story of how this one time when they were out sailing on Moon with Pete... They were all supportive of us getting the  boat ready and going in the water. Each encounter with Pete Duggan or his yard cronies, ended in a warning about Jamaica Bay Subway Bridge.  When we finally got around the Rockaways and pointed toward NYC where we were meeting Liz at 79th Street, we saw the bridge, called the bridge tender and then this angler-type boat of three guys came up beside us:  Pete Duggan and his cronies had come out to wish us a good journey!  We toasted our cava to them and waved.
